01) About ZabetRa

ii-wy em hotep! (Welcome in Peace)

My name is Zabetra (Zah-BET-RA), which means “Ra’s dignity”. I am first and foremost a mystic, regardless of my religious affiliation. I am also a Shemsu (a follower) of the Kemetic Orthodox faith which is a modern revival of the religious traditions of ancient Egypt. My faith is a very important part of my life. After five years of careful contemplation and over a decade of rejecting mainstream religion, in February of 2011, I applied to the House of Netjer’s beginners class with the support of my husband and was accepted. On June 30th, 2011 I underwent the first rite of passage within my faith, the Rite of Parent Divination, where I was divined a daughter of Ra, beloved of Heru-wer, Bast-Mut, Djehuty and Wepwawet-Yinepu. This page is dedicated to Them, my Akhu (known and unknown) and to my brothers and sisters in the Kemetic Orthodox faith.

If you aren’t already familiar with Kemetic religion then you may encounter words throughout this blog which you do not understand. If that is the case, please feel free to visit Kemet.org’s Kemetic Terms list.

Please also keep in mind that this blog is not the be all end all of Kemetic Orthodoxy. Individual beliefs and practices of House members can always vary and I always recommend that anyone reading this blog also visit the House of Netjer online forums and www.Kemet.org for more information on the House and the Kemetic Orthodox faith.

A little about the more mundane, but equally important, parts of my life:

I am a polyamorous, bi-curious, wife and mother of one. My husband is a rather conservative non-denominational Christian which, I know, sounds like an odd and unlikely relationship but he is an extremely understanding and supportive person and I am blessed to have found him.

My daughter, who turned five years old this August, was recently root-named Akeruemhebet (Ah-KAIR-roo-em-HEB-et) which means “the Akeru are in festival”, protected by Shu and Tefnut. She is definitely her mother’s daughter, I am absolutely going to be paid back ten times over for everything I ever put my mother through. ;)

Another important part of my life involves advocating for animal welfare. I rescue and foster. In years past I worked with feral cats, rats and guinea pigs mostly but I find myself working with dogs a lot now. I have seventeen years experience in training dogs. I am also a certified veterinary assistant. We have a full house of furry and scaly friends which includes two dogs, three cats, four domestic rats and a snake. The picture you see of the cat here is my big handsome boy cat, Jack. He came to me nine years ago, underweight, stuffed into a shoe box with a rubber band tied around it. Next to my husband, he is the love of my life!

So, now you know a little bit about me and my family. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments and again, ii-wy em hotep! (welcome in peace)
