I’ve been a member of the House of Netjer since May of 2011, when I completed the beginners course and became a Remetj (wow, I can’t believe it’s almost been a year already), but it’s been only very recently that I was finally able to meet other members of the House who were local to my region, the North East United States.
I’m incredibly fortunate. Where I live it is not difficult to find people to fellowship with in person. Even being a member of a minority faith within a minority there are still a good number of us living close enough to get together pretty regularly. It’s one of several reasons I am not willing to move from the area.
I didn’t think I would be able to make this gathering to be honest. The weather for the weekend it was planned was supposed to be pretty crummy, my daughter was sick, I thought my husband was going to be working that day… ect. It’s funny how things just fall into place though. The weather that morning, while not perfect, wasn’t as bad as expected, my daughter was starting to feel better, and as it turned out, my husband didn’t have to work after all. In a split second, last-minute decision I sent out a msg on the HoN boards to let everyone know I’d be there. We immediately jumped in the car and headed to the Walters Art Gallery in Baltimore to meet up with everyone. Being able to meet these people in person for the first time, people I’ve known and been talking to all year online, brought a whole new level of realness and sense of family to this faith for me. We had a great time and I am very grateful.
Eventually I’d like to be able to attend the yearly retreat in IL at the main temple but finances and child care are a problem. I’m sure it won’t happen this year… though the goal last year was to be able to go this year. *Sigh*
Anyway, I definitely made the right decision. I would have regretted not going for sure and we had an amazing time. ^.^
